A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens.  A normal, healthy lens is completely clear to allow light to enter the eye.  As you age, the lens becomes cloudy, which prevents light from focusing properly on the back of your eye.  Cataracts are part of the normal aging process and cannot be reversed.  Some conditions such as diabetes may cause development of cataracts at an earlier age.

If you have cataracts, you may experience vision that is blurry, cloudy or foggy, often with a halo or glare around lights.  Over time, your vision gradually worsens to affect your ability to read, drive and work, especially at night or in low light.  Cataracts are not reversible, and symptoms will progress until the cataract is removed and replaced with a clear lens implant.

The only definitive treatment for cataracts is surgery. Dr. Jacobson MD specializes in cataract surgery, and offers the most advanced surgical techniques to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.

We are one of the first eye surgery groups to offer the revolutionary LenSx Femtosecond Laser for custom laser cataract surgery.  Standard cataract procedures and custom cataract surgeries are typically performed manually using a surgical blade for all incisions. A manual procedure allows for a margin of error that can affect outcomes. Now, with the introduction of the first FDA-approved custom cataract laser surgery, Dr. Jacobson offers bladeless cataract surgery to the Santa Barbara community. Laser incisions are more accurate and precise, greatly reducing variables that have complicated cataract surgery in the past.  Results show that custom cataract laser is up to 10 times more precise than manual techniques. This advancement has revolutionized cataract surgery, particularly in the hands of experience surgeons such as Dr. Jacobson MD.  Call today to schedule a consultation.

Dr. Jacobson provides the most accurate pre-operative vision planning using the Zeiss IOL Master 500 combined with Verion Image Guided System.   Intra-operative wavefront analysis using ORA Sytstem with VerifEye is available to fine tune vision correction during your cataract surgery so you can rest assured you will have the best vision outcome possible, minimizing your need for eye glasses after surgery.

Dr. Jacobson is the best ophthalmologist I [have] had contact with in my life.  He is very informative, precise and caring in all instances I’ve had with him leading up to and including my cataract surgery.  I highly recommend him to anyone for eye care.

Fives for overall rating, bedside manner, clarity and communication, and scheduling an appointment. If there were boxes to check for surgically adept hands and sense of timing relative to patient rhythms those would have been 5s too.
